Katavi National Park remains one of the greatest wildlife experiences you will ever have in Africa. This remote and untouched park is located in southwestern Tanzania. It forms a part of the Central African Rift system and is thought to have a greater density of mammals than any other Tanzanian reserve. This is the perfect place for your safari adventure. Head for the rivers which teem with hippopotamus and crocodile, while over on the endless plains some of the greatest East African herds of buffalo can be found. It is the third-largest game park in Tanzania and sits on an area of approximately 4,470km along the Southern Tanzania Safari Circuit. The Location of Katavi National Park in southwestern Tanzania is within the Rukwa-Rift Basin that forms a part of Central Africa’s Rift Valley. Its terrain is comprised of vast grasslands, steep highland cliffs, floodplains, seasonal lakes, cliffs as well as scattered woodlands.
Best Time To Visit
Katavi National Park provides some amazing game viewing opportunities throughout the year. However, the peak season is in the dry season that runs from June to November or in December when the majority of the wildlife congregates around the few sources of water in the park. In the wet season, the floodplains transform into lakes and provide magnificent birdwatching chances.
How to get there
You can access the park either by car or by air. If you opt for road transport, your trip from Dar-es-Salaam will last two to three days however you will be able to see several sights as well as make several stopovers.
