Greystoke Mahale
Greystoke Mahale
On a white sandy beach at the foot of the Mahale Mountains, overlooking Lake Tanganyika, Greystoke Mahale is exceptional in a way that must be seen to be believed. The Mahale Mountains are home to one of the largest populations of chimpanzees in Africa.
Each day, you’ll be just feet away from them as they go about their daily lives, while they remain entirely indifferent to your presence. Home at Greystoke Mahale is in exotic open-fronted rooms, looking out across the soft sand beach and crystal-clear water. The lake is mesmerising, the air scented and the living very easy indeed.
Accommodation options
The six rooms at Greystoke are entirely in-keeping with the setting. Built of thatch and salvaged dhow wood, each of the open-fronted rooms is tucked into the treeline, almost invisible to the passing fishermen in their small canoes. A dressing area leads to an ensuite bathroom with running water and a flush loo.

Indulge in a variety of sumptuous dishes and private dinners by candlelight on the beach with the gently crashing waves providing an intimate ambiance.
