6 Days Budget Camping Tanzania Safari

Day 1: Arusha to Tarangire National Park

Your adventure begins with a morning pickup from Arusha, followed by a scenic drive to Tarangire National Park, renowned for its huge baobab trees and large herds of elephants. Upon arrival, you’ll embark on a game drive through the park’s savannahs and woodlands, keeping an eye out for lions, buffaloes, giraffes, and many bird species. After a picnic lunch, the afternoon is spent exploring the park further along the Tarangire River, a vital water source that attracts animals year-round. In the evening, you’ll head to a nearby public campsite for dinner and overnight under the stars.

Day 2: Tarangire to Serengeti National Park

After breakfast, depart Tarangire and begin your journey towards the Serengeti National Park, traveling through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. You’ll enjoy a picnic lunch along the way and arrive in the central Serengeti by the afternoon. As you enter the endless plains, get ready for your first Serengeti game drive, where predators such as lions and cheetahs roam freely. The park is also famous for the Great Wildebeest Migration, depending on the time of year. After your drive, settle into your campsite at Seronera, right in the heart of the Serengeti, for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Full Day in Serengeti National Park

Today is dedicated to exploring the vast Serengeti plains with morning and afternoon game drives. The Serengeti is home to Africa’s most iconic wildlife, including elephants, leopards, buffaloes, hyenas, and an impressive array of birdlife. You’ll have a picnic lunch in the bush to maximize time in the field. Throughout the day, your guide will help track animals and explain their behaviors. If you wish, an optional early morning hot air balloon safari can be arranged (extra cost). After a full day of wildlife encounters, return to your campsite for a hearty dinner and another night in the wild.

Day 4: Serengeti to Ngorongoro Crater Rim

Enjoy an early breakfast and a final game drive through the Serengeti as you make your way to Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Along the way, you may stop at a traditional Maasai village (optional) for a glimpse into their cultural heritage. You’ll arrive at the Simba Campsite, located on the rim of Ngorongoro Crater, by late afternoon. From here, enjoy panoramic views of the crater floor below and a peaceful evening surrounded by highland forest.

Day 5: Ngorongoro Crater to Lake Manyara Area

After an early breakfast, descend into the Ngorongoro Crater for a half-day game drive in one of the world’s most unique wildlife areas. The crater, a collapsed volcano, hosts an abundance of wildlife including lions, elephants, rhinos, zebras, and hippos. It’s one of the best places in Tanzania to see the Big Five. After a picnic lunch inside the crater, you’ll ascend back to the crater rim and drive to the Lake Manyara area. You’ll camp overnight at a nearby public campsite, enjoying the peaceful scenery and your final night under canvas.

Day 6: Lake Manyara National Park to Arusha

Your final safari day begins with a game drive in Lake Manyara National Park, a small but scenic park known for its lush groundwater forest, flamingo-lined lake, and tree-climbing lions. Explore the park’s diverse habitats and look out for baboons, hippos, and elephants. After the drive, return to Arusha in the afternoon, where your safari ends. Optional extensions to Zanzibar or airport transfers can be arranged upon request.
